It’s December again and that means Christmas is just around the corner. We imagine you’ve got some shopping to do, and buying a nice gift for your father and mother is always important. Dads tend to be easier to shop for than Moms, although of course there will be exceptions to that. And it tends to become more of a challenge as you yourself get older, and come to the realization that both your parents have pretty much everything they’d ever need.
No one person is going to be an expert on what are the best gifts for Mom at Christmas, and that’s because every mom is different. But there a few fairly safe choices, as well as a few that we think are pretty darn smart. Let’s have a look at best Christmas gifts for Mom here today.
A Gift Card
Most people might know exactly what their Mom will want for Christmas, but they’ll likely know which stores she likes to shop at. A gift card to one of those stores is about as close to a can’t-miss choice as any because it allows her to go in and choose whatever she likes. Plus, another big benefit of gift cards is they usually come in a nice, attractive gift envelope – which means no need to wrap anything for you, just add a nice card and you’re good to drop it there under the tree.
You know what Mom (and Dad) would almost certainly like? Time away to have to themselves and perhaps see a little more of their country, or the world. A travel voucher that would cover a portion of their expenses is a nice gift, and a much more practical one than say a new piece of luggage to replace the perfectly good one she already has.
Hey, it’s legal! If your mom enjoys toking up (or perhaps is just curious to try it out), make sure to check your local dispensaries for deals on great cannabis brands and accessories!
It’s pretty common for parents, especially older ones, to have a desktop computer in their home. If your Mom is like many parents who are becoming increasingly Internet savvy by the day then she will really love an iPad or other make of tablet that lets her do her web browsing, window shopping, and Skyping with friends from the comfort of her favorite chair or anywhere else around the house she likes.
Digital Photo Frame
Again, all Moms like photos of friends and families around, and photo frames on mantles and end tables have been a hallmark of parents’ living rooms for decades. Now, if your Mom had a photo frame (or 2) where she didn’t have to choose only one photo for it, do you think that’d appeal to her? Darn right it would. Digital photo frames these days are great in the way they allow you to upload a variety of different photos. She can change the photo to a different one with a few button presses, or have them alternating as a slideshow.
Ballroom Dance Lessons
Dancing has shown to have major health benefits, and this is true even if you don’t have much in the way of natural rhythm. Most Mom and Dads could use something of a spark to their love life, and ballroom dancing would be a great way for them to get some exercise and recharge the romance. Many dance studios have a free introductory class pass, so it’s something you could make a stocking stuffer out of to go along with a primary gift.
Book Club Subscription
This suggestion is of course dependent on your Mom enjoying reading, but many of them do so it makes our list here today. The way book clubs usually work is that they choose a popular and favourably reviewed book from a certain author and then – after having read it themselves – if it makes the grade then it’s added to the list for being sent out to subscribers. My mom belongs to one of these ‘book clubs’ and she loves it. Once she reads one, she usually then takes it to a book exchange program to add even more to her ‘to-read’ queue.
Donation to Charity
Here’s an idea for the Mom who’s of the ‘no gifts please’ orientation as part of pushback against the consumerism of Christmas. That’s very admirable in this day and age, and solid choices for charitable donations are the SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, Oxfam, as well as a good many others. Charity Navigator is an excellent resource for those of you who would like to make a charitable donation as a Christmas gift and want to know you’re doing so in best interests. Sometimes the best Christmas gifts for mom are not even for her.
These are just a few suggestions of things that could make the best Christmas gifts for Mom this year, but again it really all depends on the individual. Probably safe to say that no one knows your Mom better than your Dad, so if you’re still at all stumped about what to buy then maybe you should ask for Dad’s input.
Happy Holidays to all of you.
